Who we are

The Black Girlhood Collaborative is a pioneering interdisciplinary research lab that unites graduate, undergraduate, secondary, and community members to explore the rich tapestry of Black girlhood. Positioned at the intersection of Black Girlhood Studies and Black feminist thought, the lab's work illuminates critical dynamics through various theoretical frameworks, including critical race feminism, ecological systems theory, and Black cartographies. The collaborative employs diverse critical qualitative methodologies—such as youth participatory action research, photovoice, and Black archival practices—to amplify the voices and experiences of Black girls. This inclusive approach fosters a space where diverse perspectives converge, enriching the collective understanding of Black girlhood and advancing social justice through rigorous inquiry and community engagement.
